Goat Harbor, Catalina Island

Posted June 2025

Goat Harbor is on Catalina Island 1.5 miles NW of Long Point. It is best to anchor there on calm days. You will only get a very small amount of wave protection. The typical afternoon wind will keep you pointed into the swell which is nice. Overnights here will be rough most of the time. The overnight wind is generally light and shifty. It rolls down the hillsides from different directions from one hour to the next making setting a good stern anchor mostly futile.

In the photos I’m anchored in about 30’ of water at low tide. My swing arc put me fairly close to the beach and rocks, but not uncomfortable.

You can also do a steep hike onshore. The beach landing is very challenging in the afternoons when the typical wind/waves arrive.

Goat Harbor is know as a good scuba diving location.

There is no cell signal here.
