Little Harbor & Shark Harbor

Posted July 2025

Little Harbor & Shark Harbor are on Catalina Island 3.5 miles south of Catalina Harbor and open to the west.

Little Harbor offers a little bit of protection from the prevailing NW swell. As a general rule 3-4 cruising boats will fill little harbor and all boats generally put out a stern anchor. Onshore at little harbor is a small campground. I’ve been told the island bison will come through here occasionally. I’ve landed a dinghy on the beach on two different trips here and it was reasonable. Google Maps

Shark Harbor has very little protection but on a day with small swell it is ok. In the photos you can see the catamaran I’m on anchored in here. We dropped the anchor in about 35’ and it held easily. We should have put out a stern anchor for the overnight stay, but it wasn’t bad even when the overnight current turned us perpendicular to the swell. It wouldn’t have been comfortable on a monohull without a stern anchor keeping the bow pointed west. Google Maps
